Build The Courage To Live Your Best Life

Build The Courage To Live Your Best Life

How, you might ask?

By living your life...despite the people in your environment.

This can be easier said than done. As informed clinicians, therapists, practitioners, and business owners on various topics related to mental health, we need to practice self-care and become intentional in prioritizing ourselves. We must cultivate self and become thoughtful about how we intend to accomplish self-care or how I personally like to refer this to as "intermittent peace".

How do you form the habit of "Intermittent Peace"

It is my opinion (and lived experience) as a professional woman of color that some universally accepted coping mechanisms may, at times, have very different effects than the intended outcome. For instance, We have been told to "look within," "conquer your day," "dance like nobody's watching," and so forth. However, depending on your culture, community, or environment, the above-stated coping mechanisms become mere cliches. (Dear reader, can you relate to this?) For example:

  • When you dance like nobody's watching, they'll say you're vulgar.

  • When you sing like nobody's watching, they'll say you're loud.

  • When you dress your drip, they'll say you're ghetto.

  • When you laugh until your belly hurts, they'll say you're annoying.

  • When you focus on your focus, they'll say you're masculine.

  • When you raise your children, they'll say you're a baby mama.

The list is too long...and goes on and on!!

Therefore, whatever it is you want to be doing, DO IT!!

Life is too short to worry about what others think of you. There are a lot of people who are insecure and unhappy. Don't let them convert you into their world.

I love you...Be Wellthy AF.
